Can someone help me setup my DJ mixer to Virtual DJ program?
I have NUMARK CD MIXING STATION CDMIX2 CD MIX2 Mixer, and I also have the Virtual DJ program. I need to know how to connect them.
Virtual DJ can’t connect directly to the CDMIX. While the CDMIX has a digital output that can be read by a recorder, it’s not the kind of digital output that can be altered or played with by a software program such as Virtual DJ. Those kind of players are called controllers.
A controller is a certain kind of digital device — a drum machine, keyboard, or mixer — whose various parts — keys, pads, faders — output a digital signal that are assigned to various software functions or sounds. Put another way, the CDMIX is an analog device that digital devices like Virtual DJ can’t read.
You’ll need another device to act as an intermediary. Rane Serato Scratch and Tracktor Scratch can take the analog output from the CDMIX and output it again in a digital format that Virtual DJ can understand. Of course, they come with their own kick-a$$ software, so you may not even want to use Virtual DJ.
If you stick with Virtual DJ, you’ll first need to hook the CD player up to the Rane/Traktor box, and the box to your computer. Open Virtual DJ, go to Settings, and select “Sound Card.” It should automatically read the box, and thus the CDMIX, and create a map that suggests which software functions can go with which knob or fader. If you like the default, stick with it; pop in the control CD (a CD that is assigned to the MP3 you are playing, so you can cue the MP3 using the CD player in real time) and start playing. It should work. If not… switch to the Scratch or Traktor software you just bought. It’ll know what to do.
